Temporary student positions within the utility are available during the 2020 summer months to provide assistance in various areas at the PUD.  A limited number of office and/or outside labor positions will be available.  

Position: Temporary Student Office and Operations Helpers

Status:  Temporary, full-time, non-exempt, represented positions

(Not to exceed four (4) months in calendar year)

To qualify, students must be 18 years of age, be enrolled in a full-time academic, technical or vocational undergraduate program and be attending the program the academic year immediately following summer employment.  Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one (1) year of college/vocational education.

Students are hired to fill positions covered by collective bargaining agreements with I.B.E.W. Local No. 77.  Upon completing enrollment forms, monthly union dues will be deducted and forwarded to the union.

Student employees are not eligible for fringe benefits; nor do they accrue seniority.  Student employees will accrue Paid Sick Leave beginning at the start of employment in accordance with the District’s Paid and Other Leave policy.  By nature of the definition of an eligible position, membership in the Washington State Retirement System will not apply to student employees.

Student Application Form

Grays Harbor Public Utility District is seeking a full-time in-house General Counsel to provide leadership for and manage the District’s Legal Department and provide comprehensive legal services and counsel to the District and its Board of Commissioners.  This position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reports to the Board of Commissioners and General Manager.  The District is a progressive utility providing electric and telecom services to 43,000 customers, with its main headquarters located in Aberdeen, WA. 

Duties include:  Responsible for legal advice and counsel on local, state and federal law; contract issues; power purchase and sale agreements; regulations; franchise agreements; litigation and other legal matters to the Commission, District management and staff as required.  The General Counsel will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of all internal and external legal resources.

Qualifications include:  Experience:  A minimum of five (5) years of experience providing legal advice and/or litigating in one or more of the following areas:  municipal or other government entity, contracts, labor/employment, administrative law, torts, real estate, collection, general business, or environmental law. Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and in good standing with the Washington Bar Association. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience providing services to a public utility, municipal government, or other government entity.  Knowledge and experience in the following practice areas:  Open Public Meetings Act, Public Disclosure Commission, Public Records Act, administrative law, public contracts and bidding, public works and utilities, real estate transactions and negotiations, employment law, labor relations, torts, risk assessment, drafting resolutions and legal opinions, litigation and appeals.  Experience in legal office management and supervision.  Please review the associated job description for more information.
